Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson finally agreed to meet and dance for the UFC 165 promotion in Toronto, which took place this past Saturday September 21st to the dismay of fans, many of whom thought Jon Bones Jones would be facing Anderson Silva in a superfight before the year is over. But with Silva losing in spectacular fashion to number-one contender Chris Weidman, that bout is apparently on hold until – and unless – the Spider can reclaim his throne.
In the meantime, I what was an absolute war of attrition, champion UFC Light Heavyweight Jon “Bones” Jones successfully defended his title against the contender ranked at #2, the Swede Alexander 町田 ダンススクール “The Mauler ” Gustafsson at UFC 165 in Toronto, Canada on September 21. The fight was the third title defense for Jones in Toronto, where he also defeated Lyoto Machida at UFC 140 in December 2011 and Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 in September in the Canadian city.
In his previous performance, Jones was chosen as coach against Chael Sonnen in season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter, with a fight between coaches which took place on April 27, 2013 at UFC 159. Jones made quick work of the albeit game challenger Sonnen, ending the fight by TKO in the first round. However, Jon Jones dislocated the phalanx (toe) in his left foot during combat. He is now tied with Tito Ortiz to have the most consecutive defenses in the history of the UFC light heavyweights.
In contrast, Gustafson in his last fight was expected to face veteran Gregard Mousasi on April 6, 2013 at UFC on Fuel TV 9. However, on April 2nd it was announced that the Swedish MMA star would not be permitted to participate in the event due to a cut he suffered during a training session on March 30. Gustafsson was replaced by UFC newcomer to Ilir Latifi, one of his main training partners.
The heat generated by the fight with Gustafsson resulted in their first Twitter tweeting “@JonnyBones Already I have wanted to enter the cage with you!” And Jones said “I will fight you even though it is not good for your image @ AlexTheMauler FYI (for your information).”
The two also had a confrontation before a huge crowd of a diehard MMA fans at an event in Russia last month.
The mixed martial arts champion Jon Jones broke his big toe in a previous fight, and there was some speculation that it might not have healed fully in time for his historic fight with Gustafsson. But nonetheless, the two warriors forged ahead and met in the center of the UFC Octagon.

Jones made quick work against challenger Sonnen, ending the fight by TKO in the first round. However, he suffered a serious injury, broke the big toe of his left foot during the fight.
