Recommended Day Trips for Your Brisbane Vacation

When staying in Brisbane there are a lot of great day trips that your whole family will enjoy, all within in easy distance from hotels and apartments. Hire a car, take your own or hop on board a guided tour bus and enjoy the surrounding areas at your own pace. A coach trip is a good way to take in all the major sights and attractions, and it includes a guide that will talk you through your trip. If you want to follow your own path and be free to change your mind, particularly if you decide you want to stay somewhere a little longer, then hire a car or take your own.

Fraser Island

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and is World Heritage listed. It is 123 kilometres in length and 22 kilometres at its widest point. You will need a 4-wheel drive if you wish to drive on the island and you will need to obtain a permit. With the highest sand dune reaching 240 metres above sea level, with long sandy beaches, over 100 fresh water lakes and being the only place where rainforest grows on the dunes, you are sure to find something to do. There is a range of accommodation if you decided you wanted to stay, including resorts, serviced apartments, backpacker hostels and camping facilities. While on the island enjoy 4-wheel driving, hiking, swimming, fishing or take a joy flight.

Sunshine Coast

Head north up to the sunshine coast and find plenty of things to do. Visit the shops at Noosa Heads or why not head out to a pineapple farm or visit a ginger processing plant, just for something different. Golf is popular on the Sunshine Coast and you can go 4-wheel driving, hiking, fishing or boating, try paragliding or abseiling if you are feeling particularly adventurous and visit one of the beautiful National Parks. Laguna Bay hosts Underwater World where you are able to touch a shark egg, or simply visit the beach.

Gold Coast

Visit Surfers Paradise and do some shopping, and eat at the great restaurants or cafes. For a change of pace go to Mt Tamborine Rainforest and enjoy a leisurely stroll. Take eos-tour in the views from Mt Tamborine or just enjoy a picnic in the Lamington National Park. The four big theme parks are on the Gold Coast, Seaworld, Wet ‘n’ Wild, Dreamworld and Movie World where you can purchase passes to visit more than one park and get a better deal.

Byron Bay

The most eastern point on Australia’s mainland, Byron Bay is a great place to visit, where you can relax and unwind and enjoy the slower pace of life. You will be tempted to stop here for days as there are great beaches, trendy restaurants and cafes and a fun night life. There are great markets to be found, activities out on the water, and why not indulge in a visit to a day spa while you are there.
